Flogging Molly — Every Dog Has Its Day

Top o’ the morning to ye! This is my first tab I’ve submitted; it’s a
ridiculously simple song by the greatest, most high-energy band ever. As such,
it must be played furiously (except for a few parts for contrast) with lightning
quick down-up strumming. I’ll add a few notes on dynamics, but this is quite a
simple song. Enjoy it!
Flogging Molly
Every Dog Has Its Day
Standard tuning
Verse 1:
(slow, 3/4 time) C G C G
Well, I’ve drunk to drown on every ocean I’ve been
C G Dm G
Lake Tanganyika, where the crocodiles swim
(fast 4/4) C G C G
Halifax, Nova Scotia to Van Diemen’s land
C G Dm G
Well I drank with the Sultan down the Suez Canal
Chorus:
C G
Cause every dog has it’s day
C G
Like every woman, she gets her own way
C G
And if there’s a ship that sails tonight
F C G C G
I’ll captain that, too… just to be there with you
Verse 2:
C G C G
Well there was old Jerry Rooney, who was mad as a mule
C G Dm G
Spillblood Maloney had a head like one, too
C G C G
That night on the bridge with my shovel in hand
C G Dm G
Well he threatened to kill me I’m sure he picked the wrong man
CHORUS
Verse 3:
C G C G
Well there was mutiny in Lagos aboard the mean ship Skondi
C G Dm
Ten or twelve days in prison till the bastards set me free
G
McCloskey, you’re free
Instrumental:
C G C G C G Dm G
CHORUS
C G C G C G Dm
Verse 4:
(slow 3/4) C G C G
Now I love the sea, and she wants me back
C G Dm G
So I leave this ol’ harbor with the wind at me back
(very slow) C G C G
Goodbye mother Theresa I hope the kids settle down
C G Dm G
I must head for the Chinas Pray to God I don’t drown
CHORUS X3
End on C chord
That’s the whole song. Ideally you’d have drums, fiddle, and mandolin to fill
out the sound a bit, but this is a wonderful song as it is. Remember to pick up
the pace for the ending choruses, and have fun with it!
