[intro… ]
These are the times that tire mens souls.
In 1989 in that glorious State of New Jersey,
a new Governor was elected.
Despite his campaign ramblings
He’s been greasing the political ways
with some new and burdensome taxes.
Citizens of New Jersey, hear me out!
This may have happened to you…
—— ——- ——- ———- ———

Well let me tell you all the story
of a man named Jimmey, on that tragic and fateful day.
Tucked the votes in his back pocket, kissed his wife and family.
Went to Trenton, in old N. J.

—-
But will he ever return?
No, he’ll never return,
’cause the voters they have learned.
He’ll be out of Trenton in the next election.
Be the gov’nor who never returned!
—-

Well ol’ Jim, he told the papers that he thinks it’s a mandate.
So he’ll govern as he will please.
«Why should I go and listen to the people’s opinions
now that they have elected me!»

[chorus]

So all night long Jimmey stomps through the state house
saying we’ve got to pass some bills!
We’ve got to jam through more of my… legislation
‘fore the people learn who’ll pay the bill!

[chorus]

Well voters of New Jersey don’t you think it’s a scandal
how the people have to pay and pay.
Fight their smoke and mirrors,
vote for… SOME OTHER PARTY!
get those cronies out of Trenton this way.

Or else they’re gonna return.
Yes they’re bound to return,
And you voters will get burned. (smoke n’ mirrors)
They’ll be back in Trenton in the next election.
With their band, they’re gonna return!
Yes, with their band, they’re gonna return!
With their band, they’re gonna return!
